ON THE SAME PAGE: Free audio, eBooks and magazines available to Manistee County Library patrons


When you are traveling and need something to help you save time while waiting for your plane, looking for a read on the beach while on vacation, or if you just prefer to stay in your comfortable home, the library at the Manistee County offers digital media platforms that provide books, electronic audiobooks, music, magazines and movies at your fingertips.

Up North Digital is a multimedia platform for e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines, and downloadable movies and music. The Manistee County Library is one of more than 50 content contributing libraries in northern Michigan. All you need is a current library card and a tablet or phone.

• Android and Apple devices will use the free Libby app, available in the Google Play Store. This app allows the user to store multiple library cards, making it perfect for our snowbirds heading south in the winter.


Kindle users can use Amazon’s Overdrive app. The link on our website will take laptop users directly to the Up North Digital site via Overdrive, no app needed.

Once installed on a tablet or phone, patrons will need to create their account, including a valid library card and PIN, which is the last eight digits of your library card number. The library card connects to your library in Up North Digital. Finding materials for all ages is fun and easy. Customers can choose to browse or go straight to their preferred genre. There are sections for Just Added titles, Your Next Great Read, Celebrity Book Club Choices and more. Click on the Collections tab and search for audiobooks, videos, magazines.

Click on the title and the sample option is available. There’s reviews, a synopsis, and a You May Also Like section. To pay, click on borrow and choose the payment option for your device. More information is available by clicking on the Help tab at the top of the Overdrive page.


Another great option available to all library users is Hoopla Digital. Hoopla also offers e-books, e-audiobooks, comics, movies, and music. TV series are also available here. Clients are entitled to ten outings per month which are billed to the Manistee County Library. Download the Hoopla app and configure your account. Hoopla provides a history of documents that have been checked out and allows the user to select topics of interest displaying these titles while browsing.


Seeking to keep abreast of current affairs, the Manistee County Library subscribes to NewsBank.

Using the link on our website, customers can access newspapers from 28 major cities across the country and thousands around the world. Our own spokesperson for Manistee County is also available. Quick links are provided for topics such as books and authors, education, social issues, and more. Personal accounts can be created by registering on the site. This function allows the reader to save his searches.

The Manistee County Library website, manisteelibrary.org, provides many links to services that patrons can access anywhere. Explore the options online and take the world with you as you go.
