ComiXology integrates with Amazon Kindle

ComiXology may have had an independent existence even after being acquired by Amazon eight years ago, but that’s all about to change. Upcoming changes include a blanket ban on downloading DRM-free comics, except for the ComiXology app itself integrated into the Kindle app.

No date has been fixed for the moment and according to The register, the ComiXology app can still be downloaded and used to read comics through it. That said, a ComiXology blog post mentioned that some changes are expected in early 2022, while the company’s login page also asks members to merge their accounts with the Amazon account.

The ComiXology app will soon be retired and will be fully integrated into the main Kindle app for Android and iOS. There is a FAQs which aims to help users migrate to the Kindle app and watch comics. The Kindle app has also been enhanced to display the “guided view” panel by panel.

Also, while it’s still possible to download DRM-free comics from ComiXology, that would change once everything was migrated to an Amazon site or app. Meanwhile, ComiXology titles can already be viewed in the Kindle library, making it easy to download and view the comics on the big screen too if you want.
